The coastal region journalists organisation of Bangladesh which is briefly known as ‘CJNB’.
Goal and objective
Coastal Journalism Network of Bangladesh, the main goals of this network is to strengthen coastal journalism through increasing professional skills of that journalists who working in coastal areas of Bangladesh.This network is taking the initiative to solve coastal journalism problems and working to establish unity among the coastal journalists, identification of problems in the their profession. Risk of coastal areas of Bangladesh is increasing due to climate change. Through this a new issue of news reporting is coming forward. This network is working on those issues and defining the writing techniques of journalists.
Identity & legality
The activities of the CJNB are being conducted under the ‘Upokul Development Foundation Bangladesh. ‘Upokul Development Foundation Bangladesh.’ registered as a private development organization under the Societies Registration Act of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.
The coastal areas of Bangladesh are drowned in thousands of problems. There is such discrimination in government services as much as new crisis is creating by natural disasters. There are adverse effects on development. If the coastal journalism is strengthened or if the their news writing idea changes, we think that the coast issues may be come forward. Just in the context of coast issue such an organization had established with working journalists.
Coast investigative journalist Rafiqul Islam Montu is the main founder to form such a network with coast journalists. He Known as the pioneer of coast journalism in Bangladesh. To increase the importance of the coastal region Coastal Day is being celebrated across the coast from 12 November in 2017 byRafiqul Islam Montu’s initiative. This journalist also the entrepreneur of a unique program called Green Coast. As recognition he has been received a number of awards from national and international organizations for the special contribution of journalism. Got the Title ‘coast friend’.

Who are the members
Journalists who are working in print, electronic and online media in coastal districts are member of this network. The coastal districts are: Cox’s Bazar, Chittagong, Feni, Noakhali, Lakshmipur, Barisal, Bhola, Barguna, Patuakhali, Pirojpur, Jhalokati, Chandpur, Shariatpur, Khulna, Bagerhat and Satkhira. Any local and foreign journalists who are interested in coastal journalism can also be members of this network.

There is a national level management committee of the Coastal Journalists Network of Bangladesh-CJNB. It includes national and local level journalists. There has an advisory committee by comprising senior journalists. Branch of CJNB at district and upazila level where journalists work to enrich coastal journalism.
Reporting on Climate change: In 2017, CJNB Organized a Reporting Workshop about Climate Change Concerning at Kuakata under Patuakhali. The CDDB, a non-governmental organization provided financial assistance to the two-day workshop. In the workshop 25 Journalist Take part in it from Five Coastal District. In the last phase of the workshop those reporter had created Guidelines and has been setting the subject of climate reporting. Later on they published that news on their own news media.
Inspiring investigation report: Since the year of 2016 CJNB has been observed death anniversary of rural investigative journalist Monajatt uddin’s. The day is celebrated in coastal districts. By celebrated This day, Inspiring the journalists to write investigation report. On the occasion of the program, a booklet is published every year by the activities of Monajat uddin.
Creating awareness: Since 2014 an initiatives were taken to publish a wall magazine in the school stage. The main goal of this, is to ensure awareness of climate change and awareness of environmental in the school children. This exceptional wall magazine is publishing in more than 100 schools in the coastal areas.
Celebrating coastal day: Since 2017, the coastal day is being celebrated across the coast of Bangladesh. CJNB is particularly involved with it. In the year of 2018, this Day is celebrated in 53 place of the coastal areas. At the field level, the CJFB members implemented the program.
TV program on coastal journalism: ‘ATN News Private TV channels of Bangladesh are promoting programs on ‘coast journalism’. The program was organized by journalist Rafiqul Islam Montu. He was the center of the program. On that he Explain the nature of your work and his experience various aspects of coastal journalism.
First National Conference-2019
In the year of 2019, a initiatives have been taken to organize the first national conference of the coastal journalists. Presently the preparations for this conference are going on.
Among the 17 goals of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) ,CJNB has been working with 13 targets.
GOAL 1: No Poverty, GOAL 2: Zero Hunger, GOAL 3: Good Health and Well-being, GOAL 4: Quality Education, GOAL 5: Gender Equality, GOAL 6: Clean Water and Sanitation, GOAL 7: Affordable and Clean Energy, GOAL 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, GOAL 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, GOAL 10: Reduced Inequality, GOAL 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, GOAL 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, GOAL 13: Climate Action, GOAL 14: Life Below Water, GOAL 15: Life on Land, GOAL 16: Peace and Justice Strong Institutions, GOAL 17: Partnerships to achieve the Goal.
Coastal journalists are working with every goal. Under the CJNB program, more intensive investigative reports will come through these issues and this will facilitate implementation of the above 13 targets of SDGs.
Dream of tomorrow
The main dream of CJNB is the development of coastal journalism. It seems to be the development of the coastal journalism not only in Bangladesh but in the whole of the world. Through the development of coastal journalism, the voices of marginalized citizens and their demands will arise in the eyes of the policy-maker.
Every year CJNB wants to organize a national conference of coastal journalists. Want to organize workshops in the light of local issues of coastal areas. As recognition of good work of journalists CJNB wants to award every year on coast journalism. CJNB wants to presenting information at national level through conducting research, survey in various issues.
The work of CJNB not only in Bangladesh but also there is a great possibility throughout the whole world. Because no network has been established in Bangladesh or anywhere with coastal journalists in the world. Due to climate change coast is constantly changing for this there is a diverse field of journalists to work on it .
CJNB can implement various types of activities with coastal journalists. In this case money is the biggest problem. Various organizations may come forward to overcome this crisis. CJNB may work in larger areas when public institutions, corporate organizations and people come forward with friendly cooperation. Media organizations also can come forward to overcome this crisis.
